Launch of Southfields Business Forum

Launch of Southfields Business Forum

01 September 2009

Local Businesses and the community are working together to fight recession

When the Southfields Grid Residents’ Association raised the issue of the recession adversely affecting the local area, it led to the founding of the new Southfields Business Forum. The Forum links local businesses and residents to support one another, particularly as local businesses battle through the recession.

Supported by Southfields MP Justine Greening and Councillors Lucy Allan and Jenny Nickels, the Forum has now been launched and is developing plans for local events later in the year.

The Southfields Business Forum aims to encourage the whole Southfields community to make the most of its diverse selection of shops, restaurants and businesses on our doorstep. It also wants to hear from residents about what they want to see in terms of local shops and facilities.

Guy Humphries, of Suzelle Cakes on Replingham Road helped set up the Southfields Business Forum and has lived in Southfields for over twenty years.

Guy says “It’s in everyone’s interest to support the future survival of our local businesses. We all want to make them an even more appealing and vital part of the great sense of community we have already.”

The first major task for the Forum is a new branding identity for Southfields Village, aiming to raise the profile of Southfields as a local shopping destination, and to remind people how many valuable businesses and services there are on our doorstep. A street event and other promotions are in the pipeline too.

Other key organisations including Wandsworth Council and London Underground are also being contacted to gather as much support as possible for the future of Southfields as a vibrant, thriving community.

Southfields MP Justine Greening is also raising concerns with Ministers about the increase in business rates forced on local businesses.
